Hyundai Rotem is the name given to the trains that run exclusively on the Canada Line, which connects Downtown Vancouver with YVR Airport. They were opened for service in 2009, when the Canada Line opened. The trains are very different than their Expo/Milllennium Line counterparts, as they use a silver/green/blue colour scheme. These have a more "subway" type feel than the other SkyTrains. They run in 2 car configurations, with a gangway. Like the MKIIIs, they have a large window on the front and back, but the side windows aren't as big. They are VERY spacious, as they are designed to hold suitcases/strollers/etc. Personally, these are my favourite trains, as the sound they make when they stop at a station/accelerate is like music to my ears. Seriously, search it up on Youtube. Exterior of Hyundai Rotem Interior of Hyundai Rotem What I like about this train:
This train is my favourite out of ALL the SkyTrains, due to reasons listed above. Since they're the only train on the Canada Line, go there and see one for yourself!

10/27/2017 0 Comments [SkyTrain] Mark I"This is an Expo Line train to: Production Way-University." The MKIs are the oldest train that's currently running on the SkyTrain network. They run exclusively on the Expo Line. They can either come in a white or silver/grey colour scheme, but all of them run in a 6-car configuration, which means that the MKIs are the longest train on the SkyTrain system. They came all the way back in 1986; when SkyTrain first opened. This means that they needed to be refurbished, starting at around 2000. These included updating the colour scheme both inside and outside the train, improving the seats, and doing other general stuff to help prolong the train's life. One cool fact about this train is that when it opened, the doors didn't open automatically when it got to a station; people had to open it themselves using buttons. Due to confusion on how to use the buttons, and door jamming, the buttons were put out of service. No gangways at all. This train isn't any less cooler than it's newer counterparts, but it's definitely not the best train out there. It has been going strong for 30 years, which means this train is probably of good build quality. 10/27/2017 0 Comments [SkyTrain] Mark II"This is a Millennium Line train to: Lafarge Lake-Douglas." The Mark IIs are the modern, but not super new fleet of Translink's SkyTrain System. They had 2 versions; one in a white colour scheme, and another in a silver/black colour scheme. The white ones were introduced in 2002, and did NOT include light-up maps/other stuff that was included in the 2009 version. The 2009 version included lights for the doors (which flash when they are closing), a map that lights up, improved seats, etc. They also come in 2 or 4 car variations; the 4 car can be found on the Expo Line, whereas the 2 car variation runs exclusively on the Millennium Line, and the Evergreen Extension. Like the Mark IIIs, they also have gangways to walk in between cars, but you can't walk from one end of the train to another. 2 cars are connected with a gangway, then 2 pairs of those cars join up to make a 4 car train. Overall, this train is very modern and has a streamlined design compared to some of Translink's other fleet. This is a great train to ride on! 10/27/2017 0 Comments [SkyTrain] Mark iii"This is an Expo Line train to: King George." The Mark III is the newest rolling stock of Translink's SkyTrain system. The first Mark III vehicles entered service on August 18, 2016. They run exclusively on the Expo Line. It feels much more airy and spacious than the Mark IIs and Is, partly because of the decreased number of seating. One cool thing about this train is that you can walk from one end of the train, all the way to the other! Exterior picture at Stadium-Chinatown Interior picture As you can probably see, the windows were made MUCH bigger than the Mark IIs and Is. They go down to my waist! The windows at the ends of the trains are MASSIVE, and if you stick your face in enough, it looks like you're not even in the train at all. What a cool sight! Pictures of the front window taken by me (note the annoying guy sitting in it for some reason) (sorry about the blurriness)
What I like about this train:
All in all, this train is pretty cool to ride on, and the next time you're on SkyTrain, try to catch a Mark III! |
Why i made this pageI like trains. As in, I REALLY REALLY like trains. Here, you'll probably see me post stuff about trains, different models of trains, etc. I'll also post heavily on SkyTrain (Metro Vancouver's train system), since that's the closest transit system to me. If you want me to review a specific train, post in the comments! ArchivesCategories |
